On December 21, East China Normal University (ECNU) held the launch event for the "AI Intelligent Meditation System" in conjunction with the second "World Meditation Day." Developed collaboratively by the School of Pharmacy and the affiliated Mental Health Center, this AI system represents a pioneering step towards digitizing meditation services aimed at enhancing psychological well-being.
The event gathered experts from diverse fields, including medicine, psychology, and music therapy. The collaboration included significant institutions such as the Shanghai Mental Health Center and innovative companies like Aolite Pharmaceutical and Yide Pharmaceutical, fostering a multidisciplinary approach to mental health services.
The AI Intelligent Meditation System utilizes advanced techniques, including emotion recognition and data-driven feedback to create a comprehensive intervention loop for mental health improvement. Its structure comprises a mobile app for personalized training, AR meditation glasses for immersive experiences, and AI-assisted micro-lounges for on-site training across educational, healthcare, and corporate settings.
This innovative approach bridges gaps in traditional meditation practices, which often lack measurable outcomes and individualized pathways. The system is designed to alleviate mental symptoms, regulate emotions, and improve attention through scientifically backed methodologies that allow for continuous feedback and adaptation.
Addressing the pressing global mental health crisis—with approximately one billion individuals affected, including 200 to 300 million in China—the AI Intelligent Meditation System signifies a shift towards intelligent interventions in mental health care. Its development reflects a commitment to making mental health resources accessible, essentially transforming meditation from a niche practice into a mainstream tool for emotional support. ECNU aims to extend these services into practical settings, emphasizing AI's role as a catalyst for improved psychological health and community well-being.
