On February 10, the China United Science Press launched its AI-assisted proofreading system at the Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong Innovation Center. Themed "AI Empowers Academic Publishing, Precisely Safeguarding Research Outcomes," the event drew over a hundred experts from the academic publishing sector, research institutions, and AI professionals, marking a significant step in integrating smart technologies into academic publishing.
The Press's leadership outlined the strategic rationale behind deploying this system. Given the exponential growth of academic output in China, there is an increasing demand for standardized and efficient proofreading solutions, making traditional manual review processes inadequate for handling vast amounts of academic manuscripts. Shenzhen, recognized as a national hub for AI innovation, has a thriving industrial ecosystem, making it an ideal location for deploying such advanced systems to enhance publishing quality and efficiency.
This AI-assisted system leverages deep learning and vast collections of quality academic texts to intelligently assess manuscripts across multiple dimensions — ensuring structural integrity, linguistic accuracy, consistent terminology, and proper citation formats. It also identifies deeper issues such as data distortion and logical inconsistencies, generating detailed proofreading reports to guide human reviewers.
Notably, the system can process a 10,000-word manuscript in just 10 seconds with an accuracy rate exceeding 98%, reducing proofreading cycles by 60% and significantly alleviating the strain on human editors. Additionally, it offers batch processing, real-time terminology updates, and traceability of editing processes, catering effectively to the rigorous needs of various academic disciplines.
Following the launch, attendees explored the system's functionalities and engaged in roundtable discussions on topics like publishing ethics in the AI era and best practices for human-machine collaboration. The China United Science Press aims to leverage this system to build a comprehensive academic ecosystem that integrates publishing, communication, and services, ultimately fostering a robust platform for both domestic and international researchers and enhancing the overall academic landscape.
